I never know why, but it always seems like a rush to get out the door when we are leaving on adventures, and this was no different. We try, hard as we can, to leave Friday's after work but for some reason we have a tough go of it. For this reason, we left Saturday Morning. At 6am.
For the most part it was smooth driving and just a little misty. Just how we like it up here in the PNW. We rolled into Klahowya Campground around 9:30am. Klahowya is a National Forest campground that is right off 101. I was a little worried looking at the map that this camp was going to be too close to the highway and we would hear it all weekend. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. We barely heard the road all weekend. It was a nice campground. We think it's a great little campground for a couple of nights, especially if you plan to do some adventuring in the national forest.
The entire way down Loz was in contact with BeckyGOAT about the availability of sites. They were texting and sending pictures, it was actually quite nice to know what we were driving into. As we pulled off the highway we were greeted with a pretty pot hole'd gravel road. Easy enough for any passenger vehicle, but I was curious on the shape of the campground itself. I couldn't have my fears washed away fast enough once I saw the campsite itself. Beautiful and right next to the river. Nice and large. Hell, it was large enough for the tent and the newly acquired Gazelle shelter.
After we were all set up, it was time to take the puppers for a well needed and much deserved walk around the campground. They are so good in the car. It helps that we try to make it as comfy as we can for them. Like most dogs, they are a little freaked/excited once we get them in the car, but after a while they chill out and sleep for most of the time.
When we returned, it was time to start the fire and get dinner ready. To be honest, I cannot remember what we did for dinner that night. It might have just been a real easy sirloin steak with potatoes and some broccolini. Nothing too special, just something easy to fill our bellies. I did try something new that I'm going to try to film this weekend. It's pretty solid and there were no seconds.
Starting the fire was a fun experience, I'll tell you that. The wood that we purchased just down the road from the campground was pretty solid. Freshly bundled, heavy and large bundles for $5 was a perfect situation to find ourselves in. I was soon to find out that the wood was some of the best that I have ever used up here. Many of the logs had huge streaks of sap in them.
I took a picture of a couple of pieces of kindling before tossing them into the fire. I could have saved them and let them dry out to make some nice fire starters, but I have so much dryer lint that I need to take care of that it seemed like a selfish thing to keep. The fire should take it's cut.
We tucked in for the night after dinner and I was asleep faster than most nights. The rest of the weekend was spent just having a good time with Loz, Becky Goat, and the puppers. We did some hiking and exploring, but most of all we stayed away from the fireworks. Monday rolled around and we decided to take the long way back.
This weekend we are heading out to Rimrock Lake Area with BeckyGoat before her and her pupper head back home. It's a beautiful area that we have stayed a couple of times before. I should have a couple of videos and some great pictures from our weekend!
Until next time!
